Research Engineers – Geometry from Vision (SfM, SLAM, 3D-Reconstruction)

The Company

Over the next 5 years, digital technology and physical spaces will connect, enabling new industries across the fields of augmented reality, robotics, navigation and IoT.

Scape Technologies is an early-stage startup building server-side infrastructure allowing AR content and services to be tied to specific locations in space. The company is a year old and secured seed funding in May 2017, led by one of Europe’s top seed funds.

The Role

Geometry from Vision is at the heart of Scape Technologies.

As a research engineer on the Scape Technologies team, you will take a key role in designing and building the pipeline for cloud-based 3D-reconstruction and real-time global localisation. This will require implementing and building upon existing research in Structure-from-Motion, Dense 3D-reconstruction and SLAM.

You will work closely alongside the development team, ensuring the company’s cloud-based Structure-from-Motion pipeline or on-board SLAM library are robust, scalable and efficient.

Skills

3D-reconstruction candidates should demonstrate the following (essential/desired):

  • PhD involving 3D-Reconstruction.
  • Strong C++ skills.
  • Ability to write and test production level code.
  • Experience with developing on Mac or Linux.
  • Understanding of non-linear optimisation and solvers (e.g., Ceres Solver).
  • Experience in GPGPU programming, preferably using CUDA.
  • Strong Python skills.
  • Understanding of database structures.
  • Proven experience in leading research teams.
  • Experience with distributing large computations on a computing cluster.

VI-SLAM candidates should demonstrate the following (essential/desired):

  • PhD in SLAM or Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) related topic.
  • Fundamental understanding of sensor fusion and calibration.
  • Strong C++ skills.
  • Ability to write and test production level code.
  • Experience programming for Android and/or iOS.
  • Understanding of image segmentation.
  • Fluency in ARM Assembly Language.
  • Proven experience in leading research teams.
